I am constantly being asked by models, actors and everyday cuties about what my fave pro tools are. Finally, I decided to write a post about some tools I think are worth checking out. Through the years, I’ve come across thousands of products, makeup brushes, tweezers, palettes etc. But I’ve narrowed it down to a few really great ones I can’t live without. I recently discovered this line La Vaque Professional and thought I would give it a try. La Vaque specializes in tweezers. The best tweezers on the market to be exact. I must admit that before discovering this line I was a Tweezerman girl–I had been for years. But it was a constant disappointment when my tweezers were dull and no longer in tip-top shape after just a few uses. So then my search began… and after discovering this line my new fave tweezers hands down for quality, professional precision, and accuracy are the La Vaque.
They have many styles to choose from including the classic slanted and pointed. My fave of course, is the slanted. In addition, to being the best tweezers out there, you can get yours customized with Swarovski crystals to suit your personality which is suuper cute! These awesome tools are made of stainless steel and are backed up by a lifetime warranty. What more could you ask for? hmmm.. I know! how about some other great tools by La Vaque!
Since I was on a mission to try out new tools I went ahead and tried their palette and spatula, and I must say I’m most impressed by the perfect size, construction and durability. Pros use palettes and spatulas to mix and customize foundations, lipsticks, glosses and a million other things. We also love them because they help keep our makeup palettes perfectly clean and prevent cross-contamination. The average cutie would benefit from a palette and spatula for mixing the perfect foundation color, as they often do not come in only one bottle. La Vaque also carries great manicure and pedicure tools which are also given the seal of approval by many top pros. So, go ahead and give these a try and you too can call yourself a “pro”.

After a much needed break, I’m finally back on the grind. I’ve been busy working on a commercial this week and I had a gorge model whose hair was unfortunately less than fab. She had some split ends, damage due to over-processing and her hair was pretty unruly and dehydrated. Now, you know that I’ve recently come across some products that have “wowed” me but, I felt I needed some pretty big guns for this job. So, I decided to put on my thinking cap and poof! I remembered some great products I had tried while working on the upcoming film, Rock of Ages. I’m talking about the holy grail of styling products– White Sands. These products are coveted by hairstylists and used all throughout your favorite movies, TV shows, commercials, music videos etc for one reason: They provide amazing results. I was lucky enough to score some of White Sands’ top faves, and I must say I am now under their spell.
For my model with unruly, damaged hair, I applied The Cure 24/7 a leave-in treatment that provides outrageous results within minutes after application. This product repairs damaged hair fibers, making hair stronger, smoother and super shiny and it can be applied on wet or dry hair. The ingredients it contains form a complex that conditions and glues the split ends back together, lasting through two, to three shampoos. Next, I wanted to create some loose waves that would last throughout the shoot without having to fuss too much over my model’s delicate tresses, so I sprayed each section of hair before curling with a curling iron with Firm Hold Liquid Texture. This product is thermal intelligent, so the more heat used, the shinier the hair becomes. Liquid Texture leaves hair soft and silky without flaking or leaving residue on your hot tools.
Finally, I wanted to set the fab style I had just created so, I dabbled between the Infinity Liquid Texture Firm Finish Spray and the spray of all sprays and my new must-have, Stuck Up Mega Hold Styling Spray. The Infinity Liquid Texture Spray can be easily combed through for any style change, provides UV protection, and repels moisture, even in the harshest weather conditions, which I needed with the nasty rain that came my way. And the Stuck up Mega Hold Spray provided maximum hold, volume, thermal intelligence, and the ability to comb through the hair. I guess it is needless to say that my model looked absolutely phenomenal and her style lasted all 10 hours of the shoot. I’m soooo HOOKED!

As you all know, I am on a permanent quest to find a product to de-frizz, straighten and not damage my hair, but with all the choices out there a girl could go cuckoo—literally. There are all kinds of Brazilian blowouts, relaxers and keratins to fill your heart’s desire, but at what cost? Some Brazilian blowouts and keratin treatments contain high levels of the dreaded formaldehyde (which is a known carcinogen) and other harsh chemicals not to mention the hefty price tag. And we all know that relaxers which contain caustic active ingredients are not a girl’s best friend when it comes to damage to the hair and scalp. In addition, these treatments carry a nice 3-6 month sentence of boring straight hair.
Now, everyone knows I have a love/hate relationship with my curly hair, and that is why I set out to find a solution. Enter Keratin Earth. Chantal Sauvignon is a celebrity makeup artist and makeup industry veteran known for her work with actress Sophia Vergara, among others. Here she gives us the inside scoop on what makeup she’s loving right now, and a few handy makeup tips you can use starting TODAY!
RLB: What is your favorite NEW makeup product?
CS: Well, there’s a few but right now I’m seriously crushing on Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils. The pencils are creamy, blendable and easy to work with and can be used as shadow or pencil, but the best part is that they are waterproof, crease-proof and smudge proof (amazing for HDTV and photo shoots). Keeper!
RLB: What is your most unusual or unique makeup tip?
CS: I have many quirks and tricks to make my clients look younger, fresher, sexier, etc. But I constantly find myself preaching over 3 things: Take care of your skin, wear sun block and make use of a good highlighter. I love to highlight the inner corners of the eyes to make eyes appear brighter, brow bone to give an “instant” eye-lift and cupid’s bow to make the lips look fuller and sexier.
RLB: What product is worth the splurge and what is your favorite budget beauty buy?
CS: I love to splurge on skin care. I think that skin care is essential and you shouldn’t put just anything on your skin. A fantastic splurge that delivers is the Bliss Triple Oxygen Trio from Bliss Spa. These all-star glow-getters boost depleted oxygen levels in dull, sallow skin to kick-start a fresher, more radiant complexion. This is both a personal and kit a must-have!

RLB: Where do you get your makeup look inspirations from?
CS: For me, inspiration comes from anything and everything. I find inspiration every time I watch a film or read a magazine, especially trade magazines like Les Nouvelles Esthetiques and Makeup Artist Magazine.
RLB: What is your no-fail foundation/concealer application method? Favorite products for women of color?
CS: A no-fail method is to always prep the skin be fore makeup application. A good moisturizer, eye cream and primer are key in creating a flawless makeup application. A fave product for women of color is an orange concealer. Medium to dark skin has a tendency to be darker in some areas and by using an orange corrector you can “warm” up the darker areas to even out the skin tone.
RLB: What products are always in your makeup kit?

While I love the seasonal changes from fall to winter, I don’t love its effects on my skin.
